Text Box: NATURE, NURTURE OR A LITTLE OF BOTH?

I am Richmond Frasier (I am the one on the right with diminishing evidence of hair). I started out as a introverted, detail-oriented type with characteristics that come in handy for working with goal-oriented clients. However, in 1997, God blessed me with a wonderful wife and two awesome kids, all of whom are over-the-top extrovert types. As if this weren’t enough, in 1999 kid #3 arrived and brought enough enthusiasm, energy, and personality into the family to power a small third-world country.

So what does this have to do with my ability to coach competitive cyclists? Well, it was inevitable that this universe of extroverts would confound and recast many of my introspective ways; so now along with my compulsive and brooding attention to detail, I bring a newfound and heretofore unavailable ability to schmooze to bear my client/coach relationships. In a nutshell, I will help you have fun while focusing your attention on the small details that make the large differences.

More to the point, as a career educator (10 years in the classroom: high school English and 10 years as a high school counselor), father and a husband who values domestic peace and tranquility; I have an appreciation for making the most out of often limited training time and resources. As such, I have spent the past 8 years as a USA Cycling Level II Coach learning the art and science of training for competitive cycling and testing my training approaches on the road (and on the cross bike) as a Category III and Master’s 35+ competitor and as an Expert on the knobby-tired bikes.

After spending several years coaching junior racers who I encountered through my work as an educator; I began, in early 2006 coaching clients in earnest. This has been a rewarding experience for me as I enjoy the experience of coming alongside competitive cyclists and helping them focus upon and reach their competitive goals.

As my client base grew, I sought to raise my coaching game even more. Toward that end, I spent the fall of 2006 and the spring of 2007 mastering the intricacies of training with power. After practically memorizing Hunter Allen’s and Andrew Coggan’s Training and Racing with a Power Meter, gaining an in-depth command of the very robust Cycling Peaks™ software, custom-designing many of my own training routines, and earning the designation as a Power Training Certified Coach from USA Cycling; not only do I feel like I have just completed my second Master’s degree, but am convinced that training with a power meter is the ONLY way train with the specificity that will get you exactly where you want to be.

Philosophically (and keep in mind that this is a symptom of my calling as an educator) I strive to equip you to become self-directed. I want to teach you how to master the art, science, tools, and techniques of training with power so when that day comes when I have worked myself out of a job, you can go your own way. Of course I offer an extended service plan for my Post Power Master clients who need a quasi-life coach to keep them on the strait and narrow (or fat and twisty...as the case may be) as a matter of speaking.
